10/1 4th Grade Social Studies Facilitators

Agenda and jumping off point for the meeting found here.

We started the day reviewing the work done to the Teacher Resource. 3 units were created to match the trimester set up of the district's reporting process.

Trimester 1: Missouri People, Places and Regions
Trimester 2: History of Missouri
Trimester 3: Government and Global Missouri

We created and shared a 4th grade Curriculum folder in Google drive.

We reviewed the timeline to implementation for this year to aid in our to-do list. This year we will:

Revise curriculum document as needed
SWAP PD day (resources/Assessment/Activities)
Create Equality of resources
Determine CORE experiences
Purchase Resources
Create Teacher Training Days at Schools

Next we reviewed materials to support student learning in Missouri.

Every facilitator left with Missouri: Gateway to the West books for their school.
We checked on the status of the Missouri: From Sea to Shining Sea books
We ordered 122 copies of Missouri: Studies Weekly for teachers to laminate and use.

Edgar Road - 25 copies
Avery - 40 copies
Computer School - 12 copies
Hudson - 15 copies
Clark - 15 copies
Bristol - 15 copies

We ordered Finding Missouri: Our History & Heritage DVDs, 2 for each school site.

The assessment for Trimester 1 was finalized, seen here.

Teachers then planned activities and experiences for students to have during Unit 1. (same document found here and embedded here.

We wrapped up the next meeting by:

scheduling the next meeting
assigning each school the inventorying of current resources available.

1/29 678 Articulation Meeting, WGHS

Started the day with the 6th, 7th, and 8th teachers focusing on articulation of content across grade levels.

We started with why we were there:

To discuss what MS SS will "Look like"
To ensure logical continuity to a storyline
To be influenced by the CCSS
To catch up to the "Jones'" in revitalizing our curriculum and content.

How we were going to work together:

Discussed ROPES expectations
Collaborative
emphasis on not everyone "getting their way"
Not a "land grab"

What will the result be:

Time is up and we have to go back to school.
Some common agreement on 678 looks like
understanding that we aren't "DONE" but we're on our way.

We made comments about K-5 articulation such as:

Noted the clarity of the K-5 story was good and seemed logical.
Emphasis on Native American in 2nd grade probably won't be "enough" and to continue to story in 5th.
5th grade starts at Native Americans and moves up through civil war.
3rd grade City/Local government would give opportunity to discuss City of Webster Groves and tell the multicultural story.

We discusses the High School's articulation such as:

World geography and US government (EOC exam) in 9th grade
10th grade World/Ancient history
11th grade US history

We landed here for 6-8 articulation (today, with the understanding that we will adjust moving forward):

NOTE: Emphasis as we move forward should be on recognizing the perspective from which we're telling the story. Noted conversations about multiculturalism and diversity is key.

10/14 WGHS, WGCO, Avery

Started the day finalizing the Edgar Road MAP report for conversation tomorrow at Edgar Road. District MAP data looked like this.

I was interviewed by the Webster/Kirkwood times regarding the award(s) I won.

I met with Assistant Superintendant to review and draft a timeline of curriculum implementation to present to the vertical teams for approval.

We also emailed DESE assessment director in regards to the NGSS and their role in future assessments.

This sentence: "Development, administration, scoring, and reporting of 5th and 8th grade summative
science assessments and released items aligned to the 2.0 GLEs."
Worried us.

Afterwords I met with two teachers at Avery. We discussed the iPad Mini program for their struggling readers and PD/training that may be needed for staff, students and parents.

9/29 WGCO, Hudson, WGHS

STarted the day at the Values meeting at Central Office. We discussed the Core values of the district and proposed a solution moving forward in the Strategic Planning process.

Afterwords went over to Hudson.

I met with 3rd grade to outline what we would want in a field trip. Ideas included:

Established a CORE team (12 science, 10 Social Studies) that met and was paid for their time.
Established a “Virtual team” to stay in the loop and weigh in on virtual conversations, announcements, etc. (11 Science, 11 Social studies). This is also the group that filled in when someone wasn’t able to attend.
