6th Grade:

• Added Core Targets to all units
• Added vocab to most of the units
• Found and added resources to most of the units (DBQ’s)
• Researched alternative textbook resources

7th Grade:

• Created kid-friendly versions of the learning goals
• Reviewed the current assessment for the Ancient World and plugged in new learning goals
• Discussed proficiency scales and are still looking for a method to create a rubric
• Created new questions to better reflect our learning goals

8th Grade:

• We looked over the new curriculum, discussed the units, and possible edits
• may be changing some lessons

1/29 678 Articulation Meeting, WGHS

Started the day with the 6th, 7th, and 8th teachers focusing on articulation of content across grade levels.

We started with why we were there:

• To discuss what MS SS will "Look like"
• To ensure logical continuity to a storyline
• To be influenced by the CCSS
• To catch up to the "Jones'" in revitalizing our curriculum and content.

How we were going to work together:

• Discussed ROPES expectations
• Collaborative
• emphasis on not everyone "getting their way"
• Not a "land grab"

What will the result be:

• Time is up and we have to go back to school.
• Some common agreement on 678 looks like
• understanding that we aren't "DONE" but we're on our way.

We made comments about K-5 articulation such as:

• Noted the clarity of the K-5 story was good and seemed logical.
• Emphasis on Native American in 2nd grade probably won't be "enough" and to continue to story in 5th.
• 5th grade starts at Native Americans and moves up through civil war.
• 3rd grade City/Local government would give opportunity to discuss City of Webster Groves and tell the multicultural story.

We discusses the High School's articulation such as:

• World geography and US government (EOC exam) in 9th grade
• 10th grade World/Ancient history
• 11th grade US history

We landed here for 6-8 articulation (today, with the understanding that we will adjust moving forward):

NOTE: Emphasis as we move forward should be on recognizing the perspective from which we're telling the story.  Noted conversations about multiculturalism and diversity is key.

11/20 6-8 Science Collaboration Day

Spent the day with 6-8 grade science teachers.

and met with Physics teacher at WGHS

Every grade level reviewed the Curriculum Drafts using the protocol found HERE and reviewed the timeline for implementation.

At the end of the day we began the conversation about "What goes where" in regards to science curriculum 6-8th grade.

We looked at various models proposed by the Next Generation Science Standards in Appendix K.

9/23 Middle School Science, 1/2 day kindergarten

Facilitated Middle School Science meeting:

After school attended 1/2 day Kindergarten conversation. We:

• Discussed how we use our time
• Discussed what resources are used
• Discussed the "permission" to recognize the difference between the full day and half day curriculum.

10/19 7th grade SS

Spent an awesome day with the 7th grade Social Studies Department.

Started the day with announcements:

• CNI server
• youtube video
• curriculum template
• review of materials at Edgar Road
• MAP data for current 5th graders
• NCSS conference next year

Next discussed the pacing guide for the year.

• Added units to pacing guide
• Discussed overview of year

Went through the Missouri GLE's and highlighted key topics that were covered in out units for the year.

Discussed Ancient Civilization.  

• Discussed SS themes
• Key points within the unit
• Key topics within the unit
• Created learning goals for our unit
• Created proficiency scales for our unit
• Revised the Ancient civilization unit assessment
• Determined we will use the new assessment as the study guide to get feedback and test it's length and connection to our instruction.

For the future:

• Continue working on pacing guide
• Continue sharing lessons surround various learning goals
• Requesting another day in the spring to continue this curriculum conversation
• Need to look at the objectives and determine what is the BIG IDEA for our unit.
