Alternatives for Timeliner and Inpiration

Resources for creating a Timeline


  1. Read Write Think has a great free tool: http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/timeline_2/
  2. Tiki Toki: Pretty advanced, but really beautiful: http://www.tiki-toki.com/
  3. One of my personal favorites: Time Toast: http://www.timetoast.com/
  4. Capzles- Quite simply one of the nicest timeline creation sites around, with a beautiful user interface as well as the ability to embed into a site.
  5. Time Rime - An excellent site with educational instance (great for teachers) that allows users to create multimedia timelines.
  6. TimeGlider - Great site that not only lets users create multimedia timelines butlegends as well. There is a "plus upgrade" in the works specificallyfor education.
  7. Dipity - Create beautiful timelines with the ability to add video/pictures.
  8. Preceden - A fun easy site to use to create interactive timelines.
  9. Timelinr - A very simple to use timeline generator that only displays text.

  11. Softschools has a really simple too, great for primary grades!


Did you know you can also do the timeline right inside Microsoft word?  Learn how to here.
What about using Excel?  It works too, probably more advanced, but it works!

10/29 Clark Day

Spent the day at Clark Elementary



Teachers signed up on the document HERE

Started meeting with 3rd grade teachers about LEGO, simple machines and foundation grant.

Started in Kindergarten learning about pumpkins


Then played Math games and did some snack and moving with 2nd grade:

Met with WINGS teacher to discuss kicking off science fair.  Notes included:

Science day at Clark: Kicking off science fair

One group experiment (launching and changing the fulcrum), one do observation (mentos and diet coke)

Have a posterboard together with things already typed out.

Right before winter break, 1st or second week of December, 16th?

Headed over to 4th grade to watch the Southern colonies presentations for the other 4th grade classes.

Met with building principal.

Wrapped up the day in 2nd grade working on the landforms projects.



I then headed home to finish writing 5th grade social studies curriculum.

Wrapped up the day at a parent meeting at Avery discussing the iPad program for reading intervention..

3/4 Clark, PDC

Spent the day at Clark Elementary, home of the Eagles!

Kindergarten

I watched Kindergarteners build some log cabins inspired by Abraham Lincoln.



 

Also saw kindergarten students planting seeds:


2nd grade

I saw 2nd grade making timelines and shared with teachers about some online tools for creating a timeline.

Wax Museum Prep

2nd grade was working on their Wax museum presentations

Students research, make poster or timeline, write speech, press button for timeline
 I saw posters from students on their famous people they researched.  This research was a part of the speeches they prepared for their wax museum they will be having over the next couple of days.

Discussed the economics Old Webster project/unit
  • Discussed the terms: Good, service, consumer, producer
  • How to conduct and interview
  • Channel 4 connection
  • In the community on the 28th to get to local businesses

Discussed how we could move the project into the 21st century and make something for an authentic audience

What are 21st Century skills?
Then discussed the ability for individual students or teams to make their own video to be displayed to an audience. Here's a tutorial:

More 2nd grade

Saw another 2nd grade class of student presentations for their "wax museum." It is so cool to "press the button" and watch the students come to life as their famous person. Here's an audio recording of one....







Science

Wrapped up the day in Science class they were working on ecosystems and habitats.
